Special weather statements warning of heavy snow on Monday night and Tuesday have been issued for crucial highway links across the southern interior of B.C.

The Environment Canada warnings state that as much as 10 centimetres, and possibly more, of snow could fall across multiple interior passes and continue Tuesday.

The snow is caused by a cold front from the north and comes with strong gusty winds.

The warnings have been issued for following regions: East Columbia, Fraser Canyon, Fraser Valley, Nicola, Okanagan Valley, Shuswap, Similkameen, South Thompson, West Columbia and Yoho Park — Kootenay Park.

Impacted passes include the Rogers Pass (Golden to Revelstoke), the Coquihalla (Hope to Merritt to Kamloops), Okanagan Connector (Merritt to Kelowna) and Allison Pass (Hope to Princeton).

Late last month, Environment Canada issued special weather statements for B.C.’s southern interior and the northeast.

B.C.’s winter tire laws kicked in on Oct. 1, with winter tires or chains now required when driving on most routes in B.C.
