Grapes are believed to boast benefits that go beyond merely being the main ingredient in amazing wines. The botanical berries are also said to boost your skin.
At the centre of the skin-care discussion are two buzz words: grape-seed extract and resveratrol.
A derivative of whole grapes or grapeseeds, grapeseed extract contains vitamin E, flavonoids and procyanidins, which are believed to be powerful antioxidants that can benefit the skin. Resveratrol is another buzzworthy ingredient that’s frequently swilled around the skin-care and health realms. The polyphenol compound, which is found in peanuts and grape juice, is similarly touted for its antioxidant properties, according to Livestrong.com.
“These antioxidants are thought to help reverse skin damage due to sun exposure and pollution; factors that stress the skin and can lead to accelerated features of aging,” Dr. Mark Lupin, a dermatologist and medical director at Cosmedica Laser Centre in Victoria, says. “Resveratrol, such as in SkinCeuticals Resveratrol BE nighttime formulation, has also been demonstrated to help boost our skin’s own internal repair system.”
With these beautifying benefits in mind, we’ve rounded up five skin-care and beauty products that boast grape-loving ingredients:
