In case the last several free agency periods didn’t tip you off, the Vancouver Canucks are eager to give away money. That in mind, the club has announced three supersized 50/50 draws to be sprinkled liberally about their milestone 50th season.
The trio of 50/50 super jackpots, announced Wednesday, see three lucky fans come away with a serious windfall, should they hold the winning tickets at games on Oct. 9, Dec. 10, and Feb. 22.
Each is a marquee game. The first is the Canucks’ home opener versus the Los Angeles Kings, which also falls on the 50th anniversary of their first ever regular-season game, Oct. 9, 1970, versus the same Kings franchise. The jackpot that night is estimated at $500,000, made possible due to unclaimed jackpots totalling $312,620 from last season.
On Dec. 10, the Canucks will host the Toronto Maple Leafs, with a whopping $1 million minimum guaranteed jackpot. And on Feb. 22, as the Canucks host the hated Boston Bruins, the club will do the same, guaranteed $1 million, minimum to the 50/50 winner.
Funds raised from these special 50/50 raffles will help the Canucks for Kids Fund support several B.C. charities, including the Canucks Autism Network, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
What would you do with that kind of money? It’s enough for half a season of Tim Schaller, for instance. But who would do that?
