THE Senate has adopted a resolution honoring and commending teachers and educators for their hard work and commitment in shaping the country’s future leaders.
Senate Resolution 142 was adopted in consideration of Senate Resolution 155 and 149, authored by Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri and Senators Sherwin Gatchalian, and Ramon Bong Revilla Jr., respectively.
October 5 was declared World Teachers’ Day by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in recognition of teachers’ role in the delivery of quality education.
In the Philippines, a multisectoral movement, led by the Metrobank Foundation, the Department of Education and their partners in the academe, business and civil sectors celebrate the National Teachers’ Month (NTM) every September 5 to October 5.
Zubiri said while this October 5, National Teachers’ Month, would come to a close, the work of a teacher never will.
He stressed that the demands on a teacher, for hours on end, include accessing immense reserves of energy in order to engage huge groups of students, devoting most of their free time to crafting lesson plans, checking papers, preparing for parent-teacher reports, attending seminars, and supervising students’ extracurricular activities, among others.
“Teachers have to constantly see to the up-keeping of their own education, to remain ahead of the curve and ensure that their curricula and their teaching methods are up to date in this increasingly technological world,” the majority leader said.
Zubiri emphasized that this National Teachers’ Month was a recognition of all that work, inside and outside the classroom.
