A local vegan ice cream truck was hit by thieves on Sunday in Vancouver, resulting in smashed windows, a stolen generator and more than 100 ice cream bars.
“We have a serious case of the Monday blues,” read an Instagram post shared this week by Naomi Arnaut, owner of Say Hello Sweets.
“Last night our van was viciously attacked and the damage is extensive.”
According to Arnaut’s post, windows on the truck were smashed, while a generator, other equipment and more than 100 vegan ice cream sandwiches were stolen.
“If you see Say Hello being sold somewhere that doesn’t quite seem right, please alert us ASAP!”
The truck appeared to have been parked on Industrial Avenue in Vancouver when the break-in occurred Sunday overnight; earlier that day, the truck had been a part of a vegan pop-up fair on the same street.
Sgt. Aaron Roed with the Vancouver police confirmed to Postmedia a file had been opened about the break-in and said police were “actively investigating the file.”
A GoFundMe campaign, with a goal of $6,000, has since been launched to support Arnaut in the repair of the truck. As of Tuesday morning, a total of $1,718 had been raised.
Say Hello Sweets was started in 2016 and sells their take on vegan ice cream, in the form of “ice dream sandwiches,” bars and scoops. The company also offers custom cakes and is stocked around Vancouver.
Postmedia has reached out to Arnaut for comment.
More to come.
