The City of Vancouver has identified the worker killed by a rolling generator last Saturday afternoon.
In a post on the City of Vancouver’s Facebook page, the city stated: “Our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Moreno Cerra who passed away on Saturday, Sept. 28.”
Cerra had worked for the city for 17 years, most recently in the street operations division of Engineering Services. Cerra was born in 1969.
From video obtained by Postmedia News from the scene, it appeared that the towable generator was being disconnected from a city truck while that truck was part way across the eastbound lane of East 2nd Avenue between Esmond and Ingleton avenues, east of Boundary Road. A car parked close by appeared to be damaged.
The generator appeared to roll down 2nd avenue about 100 metres before coming to rest on the grass at the entrance to the Fortis B.C. facility.
Emergency services workers tried to resuscitate Monero as he lay alongside the generator.
RCMP, WorkSafeBC and the city are investigating.
