Early winter chill leads to record cold temperatures in parts of B.C.

An early blast of winter on the weekend brought a dump of snow and some record low temperatures to parts of B.C.
The biggest snowfall occurred at Paulson Summit along Highway 3 in the Kootenays, where a total of 48 centimetres of the white stuff collected over the weekend. The Kootenay Pass received 35 cm of snow, while the Pennask Summit on Highway 97C and the Coquihalla Summit received 14 cm and seven centimetres, respectively.
Meanwhile, daily temperature records were broken in Bella Bella, Burns Lake and Port Hardy.
Burns Lake dropped to minus-7.4 degrees C on Saturday, breaking the old record of minus 6.1 set in 1983, and to a very chilly minus 8.4 on Sunday, snapping the old mark of minus 7.5 set in 1991.
The temperature in Bella Bella dropped to 0.4ºC on Saturday, breaking the record of four set in 1977, and to 0.7 on Sunday, tying the record low set in 2009.
Port Hardy set a record Sunday when the temperature in the northern Vancouver Island community dropped to zero, breaking the old record of 0.7 set in 1985.
