NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is in Vancouver and Port Moody Wednesday, as he continues his federal election campaign in B.C.

Speaking in downtown Vancouver Wednesday morning, he announced a new deal for B.C. with a plan to make homes more affordable, deal with the money laundering problem, and a plan to fight the climate crisis.

Singh says the NDP takes the climate crisis seriously and is committed to "bold action” that includes ending the fossil fuel subsidy and investing in clean energy.

He said the NDP would form a dedicated RCMP unit to fight money laundering and a national registry that prevents companies from hiding who profits from real estate, along with a 15 per cent tax on foreign buyers to address housing speculation.

He also confirmed his plan includes a national inquiry into money laundering.

Singh confirms that his plan includes a national inquiry into money laundering, like the Conservatives have promised. No cost estimate for inquiry. “We know it’s important to do. We need to get to the bottom of why there’s been no investigations to this point,” Singh says.

He also said the NDP would bring down the cost of cell phone bills, universal dental care, and universal prescription drug coverage.

“New Democrats understand the priorities of British Columbians, and we will fight for them,” said Singh. “Working families have paid the price long enough for the pretty words and empty promises. We’ll take real action to make housing more affordable, because we’re in it for you.”

A news release says the New Democrats will fight the climate crisis “with a bold plan to defend our land, water and coasts,” but doesn’t go into details about how that will be done.

Singh also plans to meet with Vancouver mayor Kennedy Stewart at city hall later Wednesday before visiting businesses in Port Moody with NDP candidate for Port Moody-Coquitlam Bonita Zarrillo.

On Tuesday, Singh told an editorial board at The Vancouver Sun and Province that voters had only to look to B.C.’s provincial government to see what an NDP government can accomplish.

Although Singh hasn’t reached out to B.C. Premier John Horgan for an endorsement, he shares many of the same views, including concerns about the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline.

Singh said he never would have bought the Trans Mountain pipeline and would have to decide how to proceed with it upon forming government.

He also said Tuesday that an NDP government will end all fossil fuel subsidies.

Canadians vote in the federal election on Oct. 21.

More to come…
