INTERIOR Secretary Eduardo Año on Wednesday ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to maintain transparency and “not withhold information or whitewash” the investigation into the hazing death of a cadet at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).
“Justice must be served. This is not the time for us to cover up each other’s dirt. Whoever is the perpetrator must answer for his actions. I ordered the PNP to do a thorough investigation and I trust that they will deliver,” Año said in a statement.
Año, who is also a PMA alumni, told PNP Baguio Chief Colon Allan Rae Co to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into the case of Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio.
“Lahat ng kasangkot ay kailangang managot. All parties that are criminally and administratively liable should be charged,” he said.
Together with Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Año personally met with the suspects and the PNP investigators.
Año said that the investigation would also look for lapses in the PMA leadership and the cadet officer corps.
Dormitorio died from internal injuries he sustained in hazing rites on September 18.
Dormitorio was a relative of Año’s wife.
Brig. Gen. Israel Iprahim Dickson, Police Regional Office (PRO) – Cordillera Director Police, confirmed findings that Dormitorio died because of hazing. DARWIN PESCO
