1. Open rehearsal with Ballet B.C. From concerts to workshops to demonstrations, there are hundreds of arts-related events happening as part of the 10th anniversary of B.C. Culture Days. In the “open rehearsal” category of the province-wide arts festival is this event inviting people to watch Ballet B.C. dancers work on choreography. (Sept 27, 3:15-6:15 p.m.)
2. Sing-along in great opera choruses at City Opera. Add your voice to those of professionally trained opera singers as they plow through excerpts from operas such as Nabucco, Traviata, and more. (CBC Vancouver Studio 700, Sept. 28, 1-2 p.m.)
3. Culture Days Pop-Up at Jack Poole Plaza. One of the hubs of the festival, Jack Poole Plaza will host Sister Says, an indie-pop group fronted by Tsimshian siblings Gillian and Robert Thomson. Sitar player Mohamed Assani and musician/composer Anne Leader, Richmond’s Crystal Ballroom dancers, and traditional Persian dancer Lia Fallah also perform during the afternoon. (Sept. 27, beginning at 11:30 a.m.)
4. Bark mulching in action. Get your hands dirty at the Intergenerational Garden at the Lifetime Learning Centre in Mission. If you love gardening but don’t have the space or mobility, this event is for you. (Lifetime Learning Centre, Mission, Sept. 27, 1-2:30 p.m.)
5. Dianna David’s Red Ball Movement. David fuses urban hip-hop dance with physical comedy, characterization, prop manipulation and contact juggling. (Waterfront Plaza at Lonsdale Quay Market, Sept. 28, 3:30-4:15 p.m.)
