2,360 affected by ‘Marilyn’

Strong rains, big waves, and deep floods from tropical depression “Marilyn” enhanced by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” affected 480 families or 2,360 persons in Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council revealed yesterday.
NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad said affected persons were from 14 barangays in Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9), Davao Region (11), and Socsargen (Region 12).
Three-hundred seventy or 1,815 persons were being served inside four evacuation centers while 110 families or 545 persons were served outside evacuation centers.
Thirty-six houses were damaged in Socsargen after big waves and strong winds battered low-lying communities in Maasim, Sarangani, and Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.
Up north, a creek in Aurora, Isabela overflowed due to heavy rains, flooding residential areas in Barangay Ballesteros and Centro. The floods in these areas have subsided.
