A 12-year-old boy was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries in Langley Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle operated by a suspected drunk driver.

Langley RCMP say the accident happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of 232nd Street.

The vehicle, a dark blue Nissan Rogue, fled the scene but was located a short time later.

The driver, a 29-year-old Langley woman, was taken into custody. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Her passenger was also arrested for allegedly attempting to hide the vehicle after the collision.

The boy remains in critical condition in hospital.

RCMP believe the driver was also involved in a pedestrian accident that occurred earlier in the day.

An 18-year-old student was struck by a vehicle near Langley Senior Secondary School. Police say the student suffered non-life threatening injuries.

investigators remain at the scene and police anticipate that portions of 232nd Street will remain closed for most of Friday evening.

Anyone with information about either collision — and who has not spoken to police — is asked to contact Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
