A tropical depression on the eastern part of the country has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has been named “Marilyn,” the state-run weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) last spotted the tropical depression at 1,645 kilometers east of Central Luzon. It is carrying maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center with gustiness of up to 70 kph. It is moving north-northwest at 20 kph.
Pagasa weather specialist Gener Quitlong said that the tropical depression may intensify into a tropical storm once it enters PAR.
On Thursday, the trough of the tropical depression is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms over Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Mimaropa (Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), the Bicol Region, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Aurora, Quirino, Isabela, and Cagayan. Metro Manila and the rest of the country is expected to experience localized thunderstorms.
Gale warning is up in parts of Visayas and Mindanao where small fishing vessels are prohibited to go because of the rough seas.
These are in Northern and Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Siquijor, Southern coast of Bohol, Surigao Del Norte, Surigao Del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Dinagat Islands, Siargao, Agusan Del Norte, Camiguin, and Misamis provinces. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
