Burnaby RCMP arrested a man Thursday who they say was involved a number of serious incidents that included an assault on a stranger and a racist outburst on a bus.
At 4 p.m., police received a report that a man had racially abused a member of the public and then assaulted them in the area of Parker Street and Alpha Avenue.
After the suspect was located in the 4400 block of Hastings, officers were approached by staff members from a nearby liquor store who claimed the man had just stolen alcohol from their store.
Following his arrest, police then received a report from a member of the public who stated that earlier in the afternoon they witnessed the same man making racist and sexist comments on a bus.
Burnaby RCMP say a video of the bus incident, which is circulating online, will be used as part of the police investigation.
Raul Miguel Rubio-Alabau, 45, has been charged with one count of assault, one count of mischief, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of uttering threats.
He is scheduled to appear in Vancouver Provincial Court on Sept. 19.
