IT took about five minutes for the House of Representatives’ Committee on Appropriations to approve the Office of the President’s P8.2 billion budget for 2020 on Friday.
Interpellations were skipped with Albay 1st District Rep. Edcel Lagman moving to terminate the deliberations after the opening prayers, maintaining a traditionally swift approval of the Office of the President’s budget.
Appropriations Chairman and Davao City 3rd District Rep. Isidro Ungab said “courtesy” was given to co-equal branches such as the judiciary and the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
The proposed 2020 budget is 21 percent higher than last year’s P6.8 billion budget. About P6.7 billion of the budget will be allotted to operations while the remainder will be allocated for general administration and support services. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
