A witness to the alleged “sale” of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) at the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) for convicts seeking early release surfaced at the Senate on Thursday night.

Yolanda Camelon, common-law wife of one of the inmates at the minimum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), sought the help of Senate President Vicente Sotto 3rd as she talked about her experience before the blue ribbon committee, which Sen. Richard Gordon heads, investigating the early release of convicts, including those who committed heinous crimes.

Camelon testified that she shelled out P50,000 to speed up the release of her partner under the GCTA law or Republic Act 10592.
