IN the lead up to the Philippine hosting of the 2019 SEA Games in November, National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab, internationally renowned singer Lea Salonga and musical playwright Floy Quintos launched on Tuesday their collaborative work titled “We Win As One,” which will serve as the regional sporting event’s official theme song.
Complete with a music video, the three noted artists hoped the song would inspire both the athletes and their supporters in the much awaited regional games.
According to Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) Chairman Alan Peter Cayetano, they had no other artist in mind to come
up with the theme song for such a monumental event in the country but the three noted names.
Cayabyab composed the music, Quintos, a Palanca Award winning writer and director, penned the lyrics while Salonga, just like in her ongoing show, was “the voice.”
“The Philippines has so much to offer and in the SEA Games, we’ll not only see our faith in our country and in our national artists, national treasures and sports, but faith in the Filipino and in God,” said Cayetano during the program.
It is, however, not the first time for these artists to be comissioned for an event of this magnitude. Cayabyab composed the entire soundtrack for the 2005 SEA Games in the Philippines, while Salonga performed at the 2006 Doha Asian Games. NIKA ROQUE
