TROPICAL depression “Liwayway” slightly intensified as it affects parts of the country, the state-run weather bureau said on Monday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration(Pagasa) last spotted Liwayway at 450 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines, Norte. It was carrying maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It was headed in a north-northwest direction at 25 kph.

Pagasa weather specialist Meno Mendoza said Liwayway was not expected to make landfall in any part of the country but was likely to intensify into a tropical storm in the next 24 hours before leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday.

On Monday, Pagasa expects cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Caraga.
