Sayuri Shimoda is a 31-year-old lawyer from Houston who was preparing for her upcoming wedding in Vancouver. Her hair was very long and unmanageable and needed some major reshaping.
Sayuri has very thick, long and course hair. The length was too long and shapeless, making it difficult to style. She wanted to maintain as much length as possible for the wedding and I wanted to design a cut that would incorporate soft face framing layers and enhance her natural wavy texture.
I shampooed her hair using KMS Moist Repair Shampoo and Conditioner for moisture repair and manageability. I added Moist Repair — Revival Crème through her hair as a leave-in conditioner, then sectioned her hair into a central vertical parting. I cut her hair using diagonal-back sections to eliminate length around the front while maintaining length in the back. This shape helps to better distribute the weight of thick hair making it more manageable. To lighten the hair and eliminate bulk, I weave cut the interior of the hair and added long layers throughout to help the hair fall more softly and evenly.
Before styling, I sprayed KMS ThermaShape — Quick Blow Spray, to help speed up the blow dry and for heat protection. I blow dried her hair with a large round brush then curled her hair using a two-inch curling iron. I finished the style with Oribe — Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray for a soft tousled finish.
Sayuri is not one to wear a lot of makeup so we kept it very simple. Before beginning her makeup application, our brow specialist shaped, groomed and tinted her eyebrows. This immediately framed her eyes and made them pop. To even out her complexion, I used a tinted moisturizer then dusted on a hint of neutral-peach blush to the cheeks. On her eyes, I used a soft-brown cream eyeshadow stick on her entire eyelid then bled it out with my finger to create a neutral smoky eye. I followed by curling her lashes and coating them with black mascara. On her lips I opted for a shimmery peach lipstick to tie the look together.
