Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Oscar Albayalde said on Friday he would accept any government position if President Rodrigo Duterte offers him one as his retirement draws near.

“Yes, of course, kung talagang sabihin ng Pangulo natin na kailangan pa niya ang serbisyo natin, sabi ko nga, who am I para sabihin na hindi (Yes, of course, if the President says he needs our service, who am I to say no),” he told the reporters.

Albayalde has been serving as PNP chief for 16 months since his appointment on April 19, 2018.

Last month, Albayalde gave himself a passing grade of 7 to 8 out of 10 amid reported human rights abuses during the campaign against illegal drugs. He clarified that the rating was not just for him, but for the PNP in general.

Albayalde stressed that throughout his term, the PNP has never tolerated bad conduct of police officers, and said he wanted to make them “dynamic and truly professional.”

“As I promise since I assumed command in the PNP in April 2018, we will not relax, we will not relent and we will fulfill our President’s vision of a drug-free Philippines,” the PNP chief added.

Also, the PNP Capability Enhancement Program acquired a total of 22.6 billion from 2016 to 2019.

“Tuloy-tuloy po ang pagbabago sa pambansang kapulisan (Change in the national police is continuing),” Allbayalde said.
