Nanaimo RCMP says B.C. residents should keep an eye out for a violent offender from Alberta who they believe may be residing in central Vancouver Island.
Sheldon Hinton, a 50-year-old former heavyweight boxer from Edmonton, is wanted for aggravated assault.
A warrant for his arrest was issued in Alberta but has been extended to British Columbia.
According to the Nanaimo RCMP, Hinton has an extensive history involving violence and should be considered dangerous.
In 2016, the Edmonton Journal reported that Hinton pleaded guilty to charges of assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, uttering death threats and criminal harassment. The charges related to two women he was involved with in separate romantic relationships.
Hinton is bald, 6-foot-3 and weighs 250 pounds.
If spotted, police warn the public to not approach Hinton but rather call 911 immediately.
