COTABATO CITY: Some 168 government troops killed in Marawi siege and considered as fallen heroes were remembered during the commemoration of National Heroes Day. The 103rd Infantry Brigade based in Marawi City paid homage to the fallen soldiers with a wreath-laying ceremony. The troops from the different units under the Western Mindanao Command honored the heroism of the fallen oldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice during operations in the area. The Philippine government lost 168 government forces (soldiers and police) in the battle against the Islamic State-inspired Maute Group, a notorious group whose religious extremism turned more than 200,000 innocent settlers into internally displaced people and left dozens of historic, centuries-old Meranao dwelling enclaves in ruins.
