Would you like some university credits to go with those fries?

A newly announced partnership will now see McDonald’s employees receive course credit at the University of the Fraser Valley for completing the fast food chain’s management training courses.

Those eligible for the course credits include all levels of McDonald’s restaurant managers, and the credits are awarded for those going into one of four UFV programs: a bachelor’s degree in integrated studies, a certificate in hospitality and event planning, a certificate in management skills or a diploma in general studies.

Liana Thompson, UFV’s continuing education director, lauded the restaurant chain’s training programs for providing relevant knowledge and experience that go hand-in-hand with the four featured UFV programs.

UFV is excited to partner with McDonald’s Canada in offering a variety of pathways to students’ goals,” she said. “These programs are very flexible and attractive to students because they integrate career experience, professional training and academic study.”

Local McDonald’s franchisee Sid Johnson said the partnership was a way to recognize those working in management and hospitality.

“I’m so pleased that we can simultaneously offer exciting new opportunities for growth and education through amazing institutions like UFV,” he said.

As a result, McDonald’s managers can continue working while completing courses — through online and open learning — and shorten the amount of time required to finish their programs.
