Highway 1 is closed on Monday morning due to a fluid spill in North Vancouver.

The westbound lanes of Highway 1 between Mountain Highway to Lynn Valley Road were closed on Monday morning, causing traffic to back up all the way across the Ironworkers span during the morning rush hour. While eastbound lanes remained open, drivers were told to expect delays.

A detour is currently in place at Mountain Highway.

Crews are on scene cleaning up the spill but it remains unknown when the highway will reopen.

No further details were released on what material was spilled.

The next Drive B.C. update is expected just at 8 a.m.

More to come.
