Liquid rally past Cloud9 for fourth straight LCS title

Team Liquid rallied past Cloud9 in a five-game series on Sunday in Detroit to win an unprecedented fourth straight League of Legends Championship Series title to cap off the LCS Summer Split playoffs.

Liquid, the tournament’s top seed, overcame a 2-1 series deficit to force a decisive fifth game against Cloud9, who were seeded second. Liquid mid laner Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen notched a triple kill to help turn the fifth game in his team’s favor and went on to claim Player of the Series honors.

Liquid claimed the first game of the match with the help of a quadrakill from bot laner Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, and Cloud9 responded by winning the next two maps to reach the verge of their first title in five years.

The lead did not last, however, with Jensen driving Liquid’s comeback.

With the victory, Liquid claimed $100,000 and automatic qualification for the League of Legends World Championship main event, which starts in October. Cloud9 won $50,000 and had already qualified for the play-in stage of the world championship.

Counter Logic Gaming finished third in the tournament with a reverse-sweep rally past Clutch Gaming in the third-place game on Saturday.
