“We will be here until you recover.”
True to his word, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), through the leadership of its Chairman and CEO, Sen. Richard Gordon, distributed cash grants to 927 families as part of the Household Livelihood Assistance to those who were affected by Typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut) in Sta. Maria, province of Isabela in September 2018.
After qualifying the assessment and undergoing orientation and livelihood trainings, the beneficiaries initially received P6,500 to jumpstart their proposed business. The remaining P4,500 will be given once a second monitoring is completed. The cash grant distribution is a joint project of the PRC and the Embassy of Korea in the Philippines.
Earlier this year, PRC also distributed up to P15,000 household livelihood and agricultural assistance to 493 families in Cagayan, as well as P10,00 to 501 households from Ilocos Sur.
Gordon said the consecutive cash distribution activities mirror the Red Cross’ commitment to empower communities to recover from the aftermath of typhoons.
“We are not a handout society. The Red Cross is an organization that enables. This is why we must help people restore their livelihood sources,” Gordon said.
