Tunisia, being the first democratic Arab country, is always on the lookout for fresh and innovative things that would benefit the people and the world. Many of the younger people in Tunisia are well connected on social media and some in that number include Tesla owners and fans.
A recent Tesla experience in Tunisia was a multi-stop event that helped establish wall charging stations for Tesla owners in Tunisia, gave many young drivers the Tesla experience, and looked to be a whole lot of summertime fun.
Tunisia Cars Magazine was also at both events there and was kind enough to grant us permission to use some of their beautiful photos of the events.
In June 2019, a group of car spotters organized the first Tesla Experience Tunisia. The group planned the event through networking on Facebook, Instagram, and Anis Gaddour. A member of Tesla Club Tunisia living in Switzerland took part in showing his Model S P85 at the event.
According to Anis, “The ‘Tesla Experience Tunisia was special because a lot of people saw Tunisian Teslas, but never this close. We gave people the opportunity to see it, sit in it and discover everything that makes this car so special. We were amazed by people’s knowledge about EVs, and mostly Tesla.”
After saying their goodbyes, Anis invited three lucky new friends to join him on a small road trip in Tunis through the tourist areas and experience the Tesla in heavy traffic. They even had a little fun with drag-style starts to keep everyone awake, and then ended the evening that sponsored their event.
There was also a celebration to finally announce that the first Tesla Wall Connector was ready to be installed in a hotel, Mövenpick Hotel Resort and Spa in Sousse, making the road trip from north to south possible. Tesla drivers can now drive further across Tunisia and experience what Tesla owners around the world love: road trips.
Anis realized that he and the club members needed to show more people that the country was ready to move forward. He decided to drive 300km from Sfax to Tunis to attend (another), event and he invited a few students to join him at no cost to them. The students had no idea what type of car they would get to experience.
“It was officially the first ‘eco car sharing’ in Tunisia’s history,” say Anis. He also said that thousands of people shared, liked, and followed their Facebook page after that. “We had their attention, we had to use it well.”
Later, another Tesla Club Tunisia member had his turn. Souheil owns a ModelX P100D and is a Tunisian who lives in Paris.
The club members’ adventures made them realize that every city is an opportunity to install a Tesla Wall Connector, and they did. They were able to charge in a hotel in Tunis thanks to Khalil Amar, the founder of Tesla Club Morocco. Then it was off to Sousse and the Hard Rock Cafe Port El Kantaoui, to show off the beautiful red Model X. Souheil, showed his Model X P100D to crowds of people who were waiting for Tesla Experience Tunisia, Part Two.
As you can see in the photos below, people were excited about the Model X.
Tesla Experience Tunisia is just beginning. Anis and the club members plan to do a long road trip that includes Paris, Geneva, Rome, and Tunisia. “Many Tesla owners have already confirmed they’ll come with us and discover our small, yet strong democratic country,” Anis says.
Their main accomplishments this summer are the installations of the four Tesla Wall chargers in four different cities.
