Delta police, who are trying to figure out who is leaving chunks of meat in Watershed Park, say they have found a person of interest.
Over the past two months Delta cops have been contacted numerous times after raw meat — as much as seven to 10 pounds — was left near a trail entrance in the park.
On Saturday afternoon, police say they entered the park and “identified a person of interest in this matter.” They didn’t make an arrest but they did seize more meat, which they were informed included goat brain, liver, chicken, kidney and minced beef.
Although police had previously warned dog owners to be wary of what their pets eat or sniff in the park, Delta police spokeswoman Cris Leykauf says no dogs had been reported as being poisoned in relation to the dumped meat.
“Meat seized from previous occasions is still undergoing testing,” said Leykauf, who added cops remain unsure why the meat was dumped in the park. “Our officers have also taken the step of inquiring within the veterinary community regarding if they have seen any spikes or trends in animal poisoning in the Metro Vancouver area. There does not appear to be any trend in this regard, which should alarm animal owners.”
Delta police say the investigation is continuing as cops await the results of the testing.
