The Renault India CEO announced that his company will launch its first electric car in the country in 2022. The company will launch the electric version of its hatchback Kwid. The car’s electric version is already being offered in China as the Renault City K-ZE.

Indian auto ancillary markers are gearing up to increase their production capacities to fulfill the impending demand from electric vehicles. Several companies are either looking to acquire small companies with experience in EV components manufacturing or developing their own in-house capabilities.

One of India’s leading companies in electric mobility, Mahindra & Mahindra, is planning to launch its first electric two-wheeler in the country. The company developed the GenZe scooter for the American market but did not launch it in India due to its high cost. The company is now developing a cheaper version of the scooter for the Indian market. Mahindra & Mahindra currently manufactures the e2o electric hatchback and the eVerito electric sedan.

Mahindra & Mahindra will launch six new electric cars in the coming years. According to reports, the company will first launch the electric version of its hatchback KUV100. Next, the company is expected to launch an electric variant of the Ford Aspire. There have also been talks of the company working on an electric variant of its popular compact SUV XUV300.

The EV start-up Emflux is expected to launch India’s first electric superbike by the end of 2020. The company announced its plans at Auto Expo India 2018 and had initially planned to launch the bike this year, however, lack of funding has forced the company to postpone the launch. The company claims that the bike will have a range of 200 kilometers (124 miles) per charge with a maximum speed of 200 kilometers (124 miles) per hour.

The state of Tamil Nadu has proposed incentives for EV manufacturers as well as buyers. The incentives for manufacturers are the first-of-their-kind for any industrial sector. The manufacturers would have an option to choose among refunds on sales tax, direct capital subsidies, or payroll-based incentives. Further, buyers of electric vehicles will enjoy an exemption from road tax for a period of 5 years.

Tata Motors, one of India’s leading electric car manufacturers, in planning to launch its eTigor mini-sedan for private buyers soon. The company currently offers this car only to commercial buyers, like cab aggregators. The Indian government currently offers direct subsidies to commercial buyers, but not private buyers. The new eTigor is expected to have a greater range than the original model that the company claimed to have a maximum range of 142 kilometers (88 miles) on a single charge. The decision by Tata Motors to launch an upgraded version comes just months after the government announced for private electric car buyers.
