21 young swimmers bag MOS plum in 1st Susan Papa Cup

Twenty-one promising tankers received the Most Outstanding Swimmer (MOS) award in the Novice Division of the 164th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) National Series — 1st Susan Papa Unity Cup held at the Diliman Preparatory School swimming pool in Quezon City on Sunday.
Heading the list of awardees were Julia Gabrielle Ballena of Tarlac City Waves (girls’ 10-year), Julia Abigail Gachalian of Pasay Dolphins (girls’ 12-year) and Jerwin Steve Flores of Cavite Sailfish (boys’ 11-year), who dominated their respective age-bands in the tournament supported by The Manila Times.
Other MOS awardees in the girls’ category were Caleigh Garcia of Britanny Fairview (6-under), Alvine Jacinto of Cavite Sealion (7), Hannah Casila of The Great Swimmers and Sophia Castillo of Pasay Dolphins (8), Czerene Tamayo of Blue Rays (9), Gemina Suerte of Our Lady of Fatima University (11), Arline Sanchez of Cavite Sailfish (13), Althea Pablo of Assa Los Banos (14) and Bea Espelimbergo of Ebenezer (15-over).
“We are so overwhelmed with the outcome of the competition. It only proves that a lot of teams still believe in the grassroots development program of the Philippine Swimming League started by our beloved late president coach Susan Papa,” said PSL president Alexandre Papa.
Those who received the MOS citation in the boys’ class were Sean Christopher Carte of The Great Swimmers (6-under), Jerick Babon of Ebenezer (8), Shuta Tanaka of Blue Rays (9), Irie Ezekiel Bueno of Our Lady of Fatima University (12), Ferdinand Madarang II of Cavite Sailfish (14), Raphael Francis Sia of Susan Papa Swim Academy (15-over), and Malabon bets Eddison Torres (10), Jude Madridano (7) and Dylan Pua (13).
“A lot of new faces have showed up and we have spotted potential swimmers for our international competitions. It’s a good sign that new names, new faces are coming in. We will focus on them, develop them and hopefully send them abroad to further hone their skills,” added Papa.
The other medalists in the Novice Division were Andrianna Padua, Zyannah Flored, Lara Gabrielle Sese, Emannuelle Esguerra, Marife Varquez, Jianne Domingo, Margarita Revilla, Keziah Bautista, Angeline Omilig, Kean Sy, Romar Marvin De Guzman, Carlisle Loyola, Khiel Abaya, Mark Gutib, Antoinne Catambay, Duke Daniel Santos, Baron Dolison, Nash Guiao, Carlo Quirante and Elijah Rojas.
