Homicide investigators have released the name of a man, who was fatally stabbed near a shopping centre in South Surrey early Friday morning.

Late Friday night, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team identified the victim as 45-year-old Delphin Paul Prestbakmo.

Mounties say that shortly after 3 a.m., the Surrey RCMP found a man with what appeared to be stab wounds in the 1700-block of 152nd Street, near the Semiahmoo Shopping Centre.

Police say the man later died of his injuries and a coroner is investigating. Investigators are still trying to identify the victim.

Police dogs tracked a suspect to a nearby residence, where one man was arrested.

No charges have been laid.

IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Frank Jang says it’s believed there was a fight but they are not sure what happened.

“We are releasing the name of our murdered victim in an effort to determine his activities prior to his death.  We need Delphin Prestbakmo’s closest friends and associates to come forward,” said Jang. “We also urge any witnesses who were in the area of the 1700-block of 152 Street to contact us.”

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area and saw something that could be related to this incident to call police. They are also interested in any dash-cam footage or other video that may shed some light on this attack.
