Firing on all cylinders, San Beda University ran over University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, 102-56, to keep the lead in Season 95 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament on Friday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

The Red Lions hit 48 percent (38-of-79) shooting accuracy from the field and 41 percent (16-of-39) from beyond the arc. San Beda remained on top of the standings with their sixth win in as many outings.

The four-peat seeking Lions’ latest win registered the largest winning margin this season so far, a sort of muscle flexing ahead of its awaited rematch against two-time runner-up Lyceum of the Philippines University on Tuesday.

“I salute my boys for this game. They really wanted to prove something,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez. “This gives us a lot of confidence going into our game against LPU.”

Three-point deadshot AC Soberano’s 15 points built on five triples all registered in the fourth quarter while Cameroonian center Donald Tankoua contributed another 15 points plus six rebounds.

Clint Doliguez and Evan Nelle tallied 12 points apiece while James Canlas chipped in 10 markers.

San Beda produced 26 big points off Perpetual Help’s 18 turnovers. The second-string Lions also heavily outscored the Altas, 46-16.

“My boys prepared well for this game. We really wanted to get this win,” said the multi-titled mentor.

The Lions came out roaring, erecting a 47-27 halftime lead behind Tankoua, Doliguez and Nelle.

San Beda was never threatened from there on. Its biggest lead in the game wast 52 points, 102-50, after Soberano sank three straight treys late in the game.

Edgar Charcos and Tonton Peralta had 13 points each while Ben Adamos and Aldeo Lucero had 12 and 10 markers, respectively, for the No. 7 Altas, who absorbed their second consecutive defeat for a 2-5 record.

Earlier in juniors play, San Beda remained on top by thumping Perpetual, 95-76.

Yukien Andrada racked up 19 points while Rhayyan Amsali chalked 16 markers as the Red Cubs improved to 6-1.

The Junior Altas dropped to 3-5.

Hans Nicdao scored 15 points while Justin Sanchez and Dom Cabanero added 12 markers each in the triumph.

In the other juniors game, reigning titlist Mapua outlasted Jose Rizal High School in overtime, 72-65, for a third straight win. The Red Robins improved their record to 3-5 while the Light Bombers slid to 4-4.
