The B.C. RCMP has launched an internal investigation into an accident involving one of its officers at last weekend’s Squamish Motorcycle Festival.
In a video of the incident, which is circulating online, an RCMP motorcycle officer can be seen stunting on the streets of Squamish on Saturday as part of the event’s festivities.
The Mountie and an another rider are performing a burnout — where they lock their front wheels and let their engines rev while their back wheels spin and create smoke — when the Mountie’s bike lurches forward and collides with another motorcycle knocking it towards a crowd of spectators.
Luckily, the RCMP says there were no civilians were hurt, although the officer suffered some minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the officer in charge of the B.C. RCMP Traffic Services was not impressed with the display.
“The actions of the officer are not in keeping with my expectations or that of the RCMP,” Supt. Holly Turton told Postmedia. “We expect our officers to exercise better judgement than what was displayed in the video.”
The RCMP says the officer’s bike incurred minimal damage.
