Palace defers gov’t work, classes in Metro Manila amid monsoon

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has suspended work in all government offices and classes in all levels at public and private schools in Metro Manila effective 3:00 p.m. Friday because of the inclement weather.

By the authority of President Rodrigo Duterte, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed Memorandum Circular No. 64, declaring the suspension of work and classes in the National Capital Region through the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles shared a copy of the memorandum on Twitter.

But the same memo directs agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness or response to disaster and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services to continue their operations.

Meanwhile, the Palace left the suspension of work for private companies, offices, and schools to the discretion of their respective heads.

Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon have been experiencing moderate to heavy rains in the past few days due to a storm-enhanced southwest monsoon. /kga
