The Commission on Elections First Division has granted the petitions seeking the cancellation of the nomination of Ronald Cardema as Duterte Youth partylist first nominee.
The First Division ruled that Cardema is not eligible for nomination to represent Duterte Youth in the House of Representatives.
The decision of the poll body was revealed by the lawyer of one of the petitioners on Twitter yesterday.
“We are happy to announce that with the vote of 2-0, the Comelec First Division has granted our Petition seeking the cancellation of the nomination of Gian Carlo Cardema as the First Nominee of the Duterte Youth Party-List,” lawyer Emil Marañon said in his Twitter account @13thFool.
“Commissioner Rowena Amelia Guanzon and Marlon Casquejo both voted to grant the Petition, while Commissioner Parreño was on official business,” he added.
Marañon also posted a portion of the decision.
“Accordingly, the present consolidated petitions seeking for the cancellation of Respondent’s nomination must be granted,” the Comelec said in its decision.
“For emphasis, the Commission reiterates its unmistakable conclusion based on facts, law, and jurisprudence, that Respondent Ronald Cardema is not eligible for nomination to represent Duterte Youth in the House of Representatives,” it said.
“Wherefore, premises considered, the instant petition is granted. The nomination of respondent, Ronald Cardema, as the first nominee of Duterte Youth party-list is hereby cancelled.”
Marañon expressed hope that the decision will be the first step towards the reform of the partylist system. (Leslie Aquino)
