Black Mamba off to winning start in PBA D-L

Newcomer Black Mamba Energy Drink rallied from an 18-point deficit to stun Alberei, 86-82, in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Dahrell Caranguian scored nine of his 22 points in the fourth as Black Mamba was able to erase a 79-61 deficit with 8:24 remaining in the quarter and win its first game in the PBA’s developmental tournament.
Former University of the East mainstay Clark Derige posted 14 points and 11 rebounds while ex-Emilio Aguinaldo College playmaker John Tayongtong scored 10 points to also play key roles in Black Mamba’s triumph.
Ex-pro Reil Cervantes delivered 23 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals but Alberei dropped its second straight game.
Cervantes conspired with John Michael Abad and veteran Jonathan Parreno on a 13-1 run, turning a 55-54 lead into a 68-55 advantage for Alberei with under four minutes remaining in the third.
Alberei’s lead went to 79-61 on a three by John Reynald Basa before Caranguian, Derige and Tayontong launched an 18-0 blast to put Black Mamba in front, 80-79. (JONAS TERRADO)
