Asian Games gold medal winner Margielyn Didal is scheduled to compete in three more world championships in hopes of earning the needed points that will secure for herself a ticket to the Tokyo Games next year.
Skateboarding and Roller Sports Association of the Philippines, Inc. (SRSAPI) president Monty Mendigoria said that Didal will still compete in various Street League SkateboardingWorld Championships this year.
“We still have three World Championships to go,” said Mendigoria.
Mendigoria said the next SLS World Championships is in September in Mexico, followed by another one in China later this year, and the last one would possibly be held in Japan early next year.
Didal placed fifth overall in the SLS World Championships in Los Angeles after compiling 21.7 points. Brazil’s Rayssa Leal topped the event with 23.2 points, while compatriot Pamela Rosa placed second with 22.28 points, and Alana Smith of the US came in third with 22.5 points.
Didal finished behind Japan’s Aori Nishimura with 22.1 points.
Mendigoria said the fifth place finish of Didal “gave her a comfortable spot” in ranking of skateboarders aiming to compete in the Tokyo Olympics although the skateboarder “needs to maintain a Top 16 standing” until May 2020.
“It’s not yet final. After the world championships, she’ll still go to the qualifiers,” Mendigoria said. (WAYLON GALVEZ)
