The Cambodia National Police Commissariat announced that they will arrest Sam Rainsy, the leader of the opposition in the country.
Rainsy is currently abroad and no definite date when he would be back, the police said.
A spokesman of National Police Chhay Kim Khoeun said in a press release this Saturday that the national police has received an arrest warrant for convicted Sam Rainsy and his accomplices, who were charged in abstention.
“The National Police will take all appropriate measures and procedures in order to effectively enforce the court’s order to seek and arrest Rainsy and his accomplices to be punished by law.”
The national police said to strengthen and enhance the rule of law, as well as maintain security and social public order, they appeal to the public to support the implementation of the task of the law enforcement force and do not fall into a trick of a small number of insurgents, who are inciting the people against the authorities as this is an act of social insecurity.
“Please immediately stop any attempt to prevent the execution of a court order, because any action to prevent the execution of a court order is an offense punishable by law,” the police said in a statement.
The national police hopes that the public, national and international will join to respect and implement the law of Cambodia, the statement added.
