TNT, SMB beat foes, reach semifinals

TNT KaTropa and San Miguel Beer displayed big fighting hearts to beat their respective foes and make it to the semifinal round of Season 44 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Import Terrence Jones tallied 37 points, 22 rebounds and nine assists as the KaTropa bucked a 15-point deficit to defeat Alaska, 104-93, and arrange a best-of-five semifinal war with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel starting Friday.
Twice-to-beat holder TNT avoided the upset ax after losing its first game to Alaska, 72-108, last Sunday.
Troy Rosario finished with 20 points while Jayson Castro hit 17 and issued six assists for TNT. Don Trollano and Roger Pogoy had 14 points and 12 points, respectively, also for the KaTropa, who trailed by 30-45 in the second quarter.
The KaTropa tied the count at 87 in the middle of the fourth and took charge the rest of the way.
Simon Enciso scattered 15 of his 24 points in the first two quarters while Diamon Simpson added 19 points and 16 rebounds for Alaska.
Meanwhile, San Miguel Beer nipped Northport, 90-88, behind Chris McCullough’s tough lay-up and a split free throw to barge into the semifinals against either Blackwater or Rain Shine.
McCullough made 31 points and 11 rebounds while Marcio Lassiter, who was taken to the hospital after suffering an injured knee, had 11 points before sitting out the rest of the second half.
Alex Cabagnot and Arwin Santos scored 10 points each for the Beermen.
