MANILA, Philippines — The red lightning alert raised at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) has been lowered to yellow alert, the Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) said.
The Miaa said that the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)raised the red lightning alert at 7:13 p.m. This was lowered to yellow lightning alert less than 30 minutes later at 7:41 p.m.
When a red lightning alert is raised, flight and ground operations at Naia are suspended
“The alert is a safety measure taken to prevent any untoward incident from happening when [flashes of lightning] are prevalent in the immediate area and may endanger personnel, passengers and even flight operations,” the Miaa said.
Once the red lightning alert is lowered to yellow or completely lifted, normal flight operations resume.
