A low-pressure area reentered the Philippine Area of Responsibility and intensified into a tropical depression yesterday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration named the weather disturbance as “Goring” and was located at 190 kilometers north-northwest of Basco, Batanes as of yesterday morning.
It is moving northeast at 30 kilometers per hour and packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph.
Based on its forecast track, Goring was expected to leave the country last night or this morning.
Tropical cyclone wind signal No. 1 was raised in Batanes where winds of 30 to 60 kph or intermittent rains are expected within 36 hours.
According to PAGASA, moderate to at times heavy rains will prevail over Batanes while light to moderate to at times heavy rains will be experienced over Ilocos region and Babuyan Group of Islands.
Goring entered the country hours after tropical storm “Falcon” (international name “Danas”) exited PAR Thursday afternoon.
Danas is 1,005 kilometers north of extreme Northern Luzon or outside PAR yesterday morning and is expected to make landfall in South Korea tonight. (Alexandria San Juan)
