STORM signals were lifted in parts of Northern Luzon where tropical depression “Falcon” dumped most of its rain on Wednesday but a new low pressure area (LPA) hovers the region, the state-run weather bureau said.

As of 11 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) spotted Falcon at 195 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan where it made landfall earlier in the day.

It was moving in a north-northwest direction and has slightly slowed down at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour (kph) from the previous 30 kph. It maintained its strength, carrying maximum winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

The new LPA was last spotted at 125 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur although Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin De La Cruz said it was unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone while inside the Philippine area of responsibility. It would, however, enhance the southwest monsoon that would mean more rain in the affected areas.

Signal No. 2 remains in Batanes.

Still under Signal No. 1 are Apayao, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Babuyan Group of Islands.

Storm signals were lifted in Abra, Kalinga, Isabela, Mt. Province, and Ifugao.

Extreme flood advisory remained in Cagayan, Isabela, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, Albay, Masbate, Sorsogon, Capiz, Aklan, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Antique, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Biliran, Negros Oriental, Cebu and Bohol. Severe flood advisory was up in Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Bataan, Aurora, Zambales, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Batangas, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan and Marinduque.

On Wednesday, Pagasa expected moderate to at times heavy rains over Isabela, La Union, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Aklan, and Antique. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains were expected over Metro Manila, and the rest of Luzon and of the Visayas.

De La Cruz said Falcon was expected to exit the PAR on Friday morning. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
