Two anti-drugs police officers and their asset were arrested Monday night by their colleagues after they allegedly robbed a man of his P850 cash and wedding ring in Pasig City.
Col. Rizalito Gapas, Pasig City Police chief, identified the suspects as Police Corporal Roy Duman-ag, 27; and Patrolman Arsenio Velardo, 29; both assigned to Pasig City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit.
The asset, on the other hand, was identified as Janus Francisco, 36.
Major General Guillermo Eleazar, National Capital Region Police Office chief, said authorities received a report about a robbery-holdup incident in Barangay San Miguel, Pasig City, on Monday night.
Prior to the incident, Eleazar narrated that victim Robert Tamondong, 28, was named by Francisco as someone involved in illegal drug activities.
The two policemen then went to the area where they confronted Tamondong and brought him to a makeshift hut, Eleazar said.
The cops then took his cash and his wedding ring before letting him go, he added.
Past midnight on Tuesday, Tamondong then filed a report detailing the incident and the description of the suspects.
A follow-up operation was then launched that led to the arrest of the trio.
Tomandong positively identified the police officers and the asset who allegedly robbed him.
The erring cops have been in service for over five to six years, Gapas said.
Recovered from the suspects were two loaded .9mm pistols, a Swiss knife and the silver wedding ring of Tamondong, a police report showed.
“These police officers were not assigned to a legitimate police operation at that time,” Eleazar said.
According to the Metro Manila top cop, the erring policemen would look for someone to victimize and, through the use of their asset, they would take their victim’s money.
The police officers both cried as they denied the allegations when an enraged Eleazar confronted them,
The suspects were slapped with charges of robbery with intimidation and an administrative case of grave misconduct, Eleazar said.
They are currently detained at Pasig City Police custodial facility. (Jhon Casinas)
