More rains forthcoming as LPA enters PAR

Expect more rains in most parts of the country in the next few days as the low-pressure area off the Philippine Sea entered the country’s area of responsibility around yesterday afternoon.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Rey Ordinario said the LPA was last spotted 980 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar at around 3 p.m. yesterday.
The LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms especially in the afternoon or evening.
PAGASA warned that sudden rains due to severe thunderstorm activity, which may occur in the afternoon or evening, may cause flash floods or landslides in low-lying or mountainous areas.
The potential tropical cyclone is also expected to enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat” that may bring more rains over a large portion of the country, particularly Luzon, in the coming days.
PAGASA weather specialist Gener Quitlong said the LPA is seen to intensify into a tropical depression tomorrow and will be given the local name “Falcon.”
So far, the brewing tropical cyclone is less likely to make landfall over any part of the Philippines, but PAGASA continues to monitor developments as regards this weather disturbance, he added. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
