Blackwater and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel want a firmer hold of the No. 3 and 4 quarterfinal spots, when they face their respective rivals in Season 44 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup today at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Elite (6-4 win-loss record) take on Alaska in the 4:30 p.m. first game while the Gin Kings (6-4) collide with Columbian Dyip at 6:45 p.m.
“We need this victory tomorrow to keep our third seat. It is also good that you’re coming from a victory heading to the playoffs. That’s a morale booster,” said Blackwater coach Aries Dimaunahan.
Import Stephon Blair had a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds while rookie Bobby Ray Parks tallied 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the Elite’s previous loss to TNT.
It’s a must-win game for the Aces (4-6) to stay in contention for a quarterfinal playoff berth.
The Gin Kings, (6-4) currently No. 4 are pinning their hope on the tandem of last season’s Best Import Justin Brownlee and Stanley Pringle.
But standing in their way are the Columbian Dyip (3-7) who re bent on winning their last game in the elimination.
“That’s our goal, to upset them. We just have to play our game just like when we beat San Miguel Beer and Phoenix before,” said Columbian Dyip coach John Cardel, who will be relying on import Lester Prosper who notched 25 points and 21 rebounds in their 100-98 win over Phoenix Pulse last week.
