MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos on Saturday said that she is up for the reimposition of the death penalty in the country, but clarified that she wants to define what “heinous crimes” are.

“Yes I’m definitely for the restoration of the death penalty in very, very few circumstances, very strictly applied,” Marcos told in an interview over radio station DWIZ.

“Sana strict ang ating definition on heinous crimes. Kasi yung nakasaad sa ating Constitution, eh yung heinous crimes. Ano nga ba yung heinous crimes?” Marcos questioned.

Four of Marcos’ fellow senators have filed bills seeking to revive capital punishment in the country.

In a version filed by fellow neophyte Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, he pushes the death penalty for high-profile personalities involved in illegal drugs.

With this, Marcos agrees that crimes involving illegal drugs should be considered as “heinous.”

“Yung mga krimen na nagmula sa droga ay talagang karumal-dumal at kailangan tignan natin itong mga paggamit ng extreme violence, torture dulot ng drugs ay talagang heinous crime sa palagay ko under the Constitution,” she said.

“Wag lang sa pang-malawakan kasi babalik tayo sa dating anti-poor stance ng ating gobyerno.” /jpv
