Little Archie’s christening on Saturday, July 6 was a private affair at Windsor Castle, and the limited guest list included family and friends closest to Meghan and Prince Harry.
Absent from the occasion was the Duchess of Sussex’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, who expressed that he would have wanted to be there even if he was not invited.
He told the Mail on Sunday on Saturday that he has been a member of the Anglican Church, which he calls the “Queen’s Church” since he was a young boy.
“Archie is my new grandson, so of course I would have enjoyed being there for the blessing, wishing Archie and his parents health and happiness,” he was quoted as saying.
Meghan’s mother and Thomas’ former wife Doria Ragland was present at the ceremony and was one of the select few who was part of the official portrait. She was the only family member of Meghan’s to attend the royal wedding in May 2018.
Thomas was invited to the wedding even after a snafu which involved him staging paparazzi pictures. He claimed that he missed his daughter’s wedding due to heart surgery. However, a close friend to Meghan told the Daily Mail that her father faked the excuse to gain sympathy.
The retired lighting director has tried to reach out to his daughter through the press, stating that he cannot reach her through her personal number. The Duchess’ close friends told People in February that Meghan has been frustrated that her father keeps the media involved in their rift. Niña V. Guno/JB
