The latest record-high public satisfaction rating of President Duterte shows that he is “on the right track” in governing the nation despite the negative propaganda by detractors, Malacañang said Tuesday.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said more and more Filipinos believe the President’s honest intention for the nation as well as have seen how he has matched his words into actions.
“Even as the President shrugs off and is nonchalant about this spiked approbation, we can not but treat this unprecedented excellent rating as a thumbs up sign, that the President is on the right track in his policies and actions of governance,” he said in a statement.
“It is likewise a complete repudiation of his political nemeses and hecklers who remain chained to their bias and prejudice,” he added.
In a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, 80 percent of the respondents were satisfied with the performance of the President in the second quarter of the year. At least 12 percent are dissatisfied while nine percent are undecided.
The President earned a net satisfaction rating of +68 classified as “very good,” higher compared to his previous record of +66 in March 2019.
Panelo said the latest figure is considered the President’s highest satisfaction rating since he assumed office in June 2016.
He said the survey was also the first post-midterm election independent survey conducted and was done at the height of the Recto Bank incident “an issue which the anti-Duterte forces pulverised the President with venom, and until now pilloried ad nauseum.”
Reacting to the survey results, the President earlier said he was happy if people were satisfied with his performance. He said he remains focused on his job particularly in serving and protecting the people.
“Alam mo naman ako I do not go for this kind of things. Basta ako, trabaho lang,” he said in an interview with reporters at the Palace last Monday. “As always, sinabi ko, if you are satisfied with my work, then I’m happy. If you are not satisfied, then I’ll work more.”
Panelo said the President’s satisfaction rating has become a “habitual vexing news” to the critics, detractors and opposition, adding it was time for the “few boisterous minority” to see Duterte “in the best lights, and not with jaundice eyes.” (Genalyn Kabiling)
