Hunger forced a security guard to go out of his hiding place five days after he allegedly shot dead a 15-year-old boy inside a classroom in Calamba City in Laguna.
Renando Calderama went down from the hills of Laguna to find food and was immediately spotted by local residents who contacted the police.
Col. Eleazar Matta, director of the Laguna Provincial Police Office, said Calderama was arrested at around 4 a.m. in Barangay Bucal in Calamba City.
Calderama was tagged as the one who shot dead a 15-year old boy in Castor Alviar National High School in Calamba City on July 4.
The victim was taken to the hospital where he died later.
Calderama and the victim were reportedly living together as lovers. It is not immediately clear why Calderama gunned down the victim.
During interrogation, Calderama disclosed that he went into hiding after the shooting at the hilly portions of Calamba City.
“Initial interview with him revealed that for the last five days, he stayed in the hilly portion of Barangay Masili and would go to the lakeside of Laguna de Bay just to drink water,” said Matta.
“His hunger forced him to go down to look for food,” he added.
Calderama was seen walking along the track of the Philippine National Railways. Some of the residents who recognized him immediately sought police assistance.
Seized from him was a backpack containing the revolver believed to be the one he used in the killing. (Aaron Recuenco)
