MANILA, Philippines – Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles was reelected president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
Valles was reelected during the CBCP plenary assembly at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center last Saturday, with 83 bishops in attendance.
Valles’ second and last term will start on December 1 2019 and end on November 30, 2021.
He was first elected CBCP president in July 2017, succeeding Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas.
Bishop Pablo Virgilio David of Caloocan was reelected as vice president, while Archbishop John Du was reelected treasurer and Fr. Marvin Mejia as secretary general.
According to CBCP, Valles’ re-election “would make him a more visible face of the Church” as it prepares for the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines in 2021. (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
